Music Invasion: Etta Jones' "Don't Go To Strangers"
>> Wednesday, December 17, 2008
One of the great Jazz album I owned was Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" but I've lost it during a move, bought it back just to lose it again. In the album there's this song called Don't Go To Strangers that I love. I think music really helps me through emotional times as they just magically appears in my head when I need them. "Play with fire, get your fingers burn..." was the line that keep appearing in my head these two days but it's not until today that I found out one line in the song actually says "I'm an old hand" and not "I'm an old hen", haha. Amy Winehouse had a legendary performance with one Paul Weller here on Jools Holland with the song; legendary because I doubt Amy can ever perform in that level again.
I'm feeling mopey enough to do a double take, but I couldn't find a good version of Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry. I love how Sarah Vaughan did it, but all they have is Frank Sinatra and I dislike him. Be thankful I didn't go after Donny Osmond's Puppy Love. :)
Don't Go To Strangers
Build your dreams
To the stars above
But when you need
Someone true to love
Don't go to strangers
Darling, come on to me
Play with fire
Till your fingers burn
And when there's no place
For you to turn
Don't go to strangers
Darling, come on to me
For when you hear a call
To follow your heart
You'll follow your heart, I know
I've been through it all
And I'm an old hand
And I'll understand if you go
So make your mark
For your friends to see
But when you need
More than company
Don't go to strangers
Darling, come to me
Don't go to strangers
Darling, come on to me
